People all over the world love coffee. It doesn’t matter if you’re past retirement age, or just graduating college, people from all walks of life love their java. However, at some point many people find themselves crossing the line between coffee lover and coffee addict.
Do you find yourself wondering if your love for coffee has become a full-fledged addiction? Here are some of the telltale signs that you just might be a coffee addict.
You Get Migraines
Just like smokers and alcoholics find themselves suffering physical withdrawals when they fail to get their fix, coffee drinkers can experience the same thing. If you find yourself with a splitting headache if you miss your morning coffee, then it could be an indication that you’re in fact suffering a withdrawal symptom.
You Can’t Function in the Mornings
Are you one of those people that wakes up in the morning and no one is allowed to talk to you unless you have your morning coffee? Perhaps you can barely walk in a straight line before you get your caffeine fix. If you have a problem functioning without caffeine, then this is a symptom of addiction.
Remember, even though caffeine is socially accepted, it’s still a stimulant and a drug. If you rely on it too heavily to be able to carry out your daily life, then it can start to become a problem.
One Coffee Barely Does Anything to You
Do you find yourself drinking one coffee only to feel less than energized a few moments later? One of the biggest indications of caffeine addiction is building up a high tolerance. If it takes multiple coffees for you to be able to feel even the slightest buzz, then this could definitely be a red flag that your tolerance is high as a result of an addiction.
You’re Constipated Without it
One of the perks of coffee is that it can boost your metabolism. After a morning cup of coffee, many find themselves going straight to the bathroom to go number two. Yet, when we start to depend on coffee to be able to clean our intestines, then it can start to affect our gut. Your digestive system will start to rely on coffee as a way to go to the bathroom, which may be OK if you drink coffee every day, however, if you find yourself without a cup, then it could lead to pesky constipation.
Your Heart Flutters
Many people who drink excess caffeine find themselves experiencing heart palpitations. If you’re drinking so much caffeine to the point where your heart is fluttering out of your chest, then it’s a pretty big indication that you’re drinking more than you should.
