I never thought that it would be possible to have an allergic reaction to coffee. Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised – after all, there are allergic reactions to most everything. Still, I can’t even begin to imagine what my life would be like if I were allergic to coffee! What prompted this post? I ran across Linilla’s post on her problems with coffee.
She shares that she had to switch to decaf 15 years ago precisely because of her allergic reactions. She loves coffee but it doesn’t return that love – poor girl! Today, all she drinks is decaf and still some brands provoke allergic reactions. So what kinds of reactions are possible from drinking coffee? I don’t really know much but Linilla shares:
Generally I stay away from flavored coffees because they cause me extreme chest pain. I once wound up in the emergency room thinking I had a heart attack after drinking flavored coffee at a social event!
Lately some of the supposedly unflavored coffees have been giving me sharp pain in my abdomen, and it lasts for hours.
I can’t help but feel so bad for her! I mean, if the allergic reaction was a mild rash of some sort then maybe she could still enjoy coffee. I wonder what the reason behind this sort of allergy is. I have never met anyone who has this kind of reaction and the possibility of it happening just scares me!
